Key takeaway messages from the manufacturing breakaway session

  1. South Africa does not have generic problems. South Africa has market efficiencies, market size and reasonably good infrastructure. The three requirements that are essential to be linked for a highly productive manufacturing sector are training, industry and innovation.
  2. Eleven FET Colleges have been acquired from DHET by industry and dedicated to be used as pilot sites to produce skills that are required by industry.
  3. The first maritime university campus will be opened in the latter half of 2015 which will serve as a centre of excellence, bringing together diverse faculties.
  4. In 2015 a job summit will be held, sponsored by the Department of Labour and the International Labour Organisation.
